Sustainability should be the core of your business, not a nice-to-have

What happen if the sun stops shining?
What happen if the sun stops shining?

Sustainability is not a fad or a trend. It should be at the core of your business. I review our latest Sustainability Report. And explain why, at Santex, we know we can only grow when the environment and the people around us are also thriving.

Businesses cannot ignore the world around them. To succeed in an unpredictable economy, organizations have to nurture the people and land they depend on — or be doomed to fail in the long term.

Why should a business care about sustainability? Why should it focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics?

There are plenty of reasons. You’ve read them all before: customers, investors, and employees are looking for ethical businesses that are environmentally-conscious, socially responsible, and energy-efficient.

But I think one of the most important reasons is: future-proofing. And I’m not just talking about the future of your business.

You see, the future belongs to everyone. You cannot have a successful business if your community, collaborators, business partners, and the landscape around you are failing. We either rise or fall together.

Most company leaders agree. According to a 2025 Deloitte poll:

  • 83% of respondents increased their sustainability investments during the last year.

  • 81% are using AI to boost their sustainability efforts.

  • 45% believe sustainability is a top three business challenge, along with tech adoption and AI

But some results worry me.

Respondents also said they’re feeling less pressure to move on sustainability. Shareholders, governments, civil society, employees — they’re not demanding action as much as they used to.

And this has impacted business initiatives: fewer efforts to decrease emissions, develop new sustainable products or services, use more sustainable materials, implement tech solutions, and so on.

At Santex, we’re going against the grain. We don’t think sustainability is a trend: it’s the backbone of our operations.

This isn’t the time to relax, but to step up.

In our latest Sustainability Report, we look at how Santex has been supporting our environment, society, and people.

Let’s break it down:

  • Mitigating our environmental impact. We became a Carbon Positive company in 2024. We planted over 1 thousand native plant species in our home province of Córdoba to capture 500 tons of CO2 over the next 20 years.

  • Helping clients make a real impact. For an agricultural client, we developed an app that traces the product journey from farm to end consumer — ensuring transparency and sustainable practices across the supply chain.

  • Seeking partners in sustainability. When choosing providers, we prioritize local businesses within 80 kilometers of our offices. We also ensure they’re aligned with our environmental, social, and economic values.

  • Promoting ethical AI. We developed a blueprint to help Latin American businesses and governments assess how they’re approaching AI governance, with the goal of promoting a robust, ethical, and innovation-friendly AI ecosystem.

  • Growing together as a team. For a business to thrive, its collaborators need to thrive as well. That’s why we developed SantexCap, a platform to help employees manage their career path and professional growth.

  • Putting community at the forefront. Through our Technology with Purpose Foundation, we’ve helped over 6 thousand people from children to adolescents and seniors improve their digital literacy via courses and workshops.

These are just some examples of what we’re doing. And we still have more to do.

Sustainability involves every aspect of your business. It needs to be part of your core mission and strategy.

From the products you make to where and how you make them. From your business partners to your everyday collaborators. From your global markets to your local neighborhoods.

At every level, you need to make sustainability your identity. That’s what we’ve done at Santex since the beginning. Because we know that, to keep doing business, we need to help create a world that’s worth doing business in —  and worth living in.

That’s the Santex way.

Always learning,
Walter
